Okay, thank you very much for your detailed instructions.
I allready have a running 1.4pre2 server with only the jud transport 
enabled on a debian i386 machine running, so I already know a little bit
about building jabber, but learning from an expert is allways better :)

And believe me it is incedibly unbelievable how much trouble finding
a functional gcc for HP-UX is... But I already managed to build a bash dynamicaly 
yesterday. (Next thing is to try to build it static :)

So far I can only say that the the source from cvs yesterday at about 22:00 GMT
compiled successfully with gcc ( cobra:/tmp_mnt/gnupackages # gcc --version
2.9-hppa-991112 ),
but it didn´t do anything and ate 99 % CPU... :((
But I assume that is due to my fault, and is not going to help
you in any way. 

Well, I dont know how the 1.4-final release schedule is planned,
and if it is going to be in time for the release,
but I am going to give it another try today.
