Well, one way to mitigate that problem is for clients to actually set priority.

* User is working at desk, desktop client sends "nominal" priority (e.g. 10 or 20)
* User grabs laptop, laptop client sends "nominal" priority (e.g. 10 or 20)
* Desktop goes auto-away, sends priority 0

This is why I don't use clients that fail to set priority at all.
