[jdev] The state of avatars

Hi all,

I need to develop a Jabber client with avatar support.
I've found two JEPs about avatars, JEP-008 and JEP-0084, but they are 
retracted and deferred respectively.

Then how could I properly implement avatar support? (using pubsub 
JEP-060 I believe)
(btw, why is JEP-0084 deferred?)
