I made some searches myself:

- GAIM and Everybuddy are using MSNP7 - the protocol version that will
  be dropped
- It seems that nobody does know how authentication in MSNP8/9 is done.
- MSNP8 is not very different to MSNP7 but the connection is SSL secured
  and the hashing algorithm used has changed from MD5 to something the
  messenger calls "TWN".


Interesting could be the forum and the MSNP8 research on
