ok, let's say my domain is yahoo.com
my domain is yahoo.com
the dns resolves yahoo.com, www.yahoo.com, ftp.yahoo.com to my computer's
ip (ie 100.100.100.100). (so yes it's fully qualified)
however when I want to set the aim service I use aim.yahoo.com, should that
be qualified too? apparently yes, so
i did put a new alias in my dns server for aim.yahoo.com directing to the
same server (100.100.100.100)
but when I try to connect to aim service from my client I got this result:
 > 20010209T21:22:32: [alert] (aim.yahoo.com): hostname maps back to ourselves!
 > 20010209T21:22:32: [notice] (aim.yahoo.com): failed to establish connection
 > 20010209T21:22:32: [notice] (aim.yahoo.com): bouncing a packet to

apparently jabberd is trying to connect to aim transport, which is running
on the same machine.
But apparently it doesn't like it.

By the way, I am using RH6.2.

Thank you.
