[JDEV] libjabber.so.1: cannot open shared object file

Is /usr/local/lib in /etc/ld.so.conf before you run ldconfig or did
you specify it on the command line? 
Does ldconfig -v print /usr/local/lib indicating it is being scanned?
Does ldconfig -p show libjabber.so.1?
Permissions?
