[JDEV] Jabber on PHP

I think I'm up to the task of doing something like this... There are two
ways I see approaching the situation though...

1) Build a class in PHP to talk through a socket to Jabber

2) Build a PHP module to talk to JNIX which in turn talks to Jabber.

I like 2 better than 1, but I am not sure if that is the "correct" way to do
this? Should I be using JNIX or is there a better way to be talking to
Jabber? I am still a little shaky on the details and the documentation is
nowhere to be found on JNIX (at least that I can find). If you guys don't
mind me bugging you with questions, then I'd be willing to take on the PHP
task... your input would be appreciated! :)
