[jdev] why does ..Linux throws errors for the Resorce part of the JID?

Hi All,
I was trying to connect to a demo server ...or the  "Echo server" given in the jabber download examples ...using the Echo client ...

on a LINUX OS machine and it throws some errors on connecting to the server.... suppose i have to connect to server with a JID as

merwin at 192.168.1.65/MERWIN..

where the last part is the resource ie.MERWIN..
Linux throws an error ..says that the resource is not found ...
But there is no problem with windows machine ....
am i missing something..
