this book is also of interest for you. Because it ships with lots of VB6 
samples. There is also a library and a sample client on the CD written 
in VB6.
As i said before when you know nothing about Jabber/XMPP and XML then 
you should find a library. Because all Jabber XMPP Libraries handle all 
the protocol and XMPP stuff for you.
