This is only a problem if, for some reason, you want to distribute a
modified daemontools. This does not prevent you from using the stock
daemontools with jabber.

There is no "default" location for logs. Logs go wherever the heck
you want them to.
Don't confuse an example given in the documentation with a default.

Whatever. I wouldn't want to invite the man over to dinner or try to
do a business deal with him, but nobody's written a compelling
alternative to daemontools yet.
