My book has a short discussion of s2s and summarizes things as part of a
jabber reference section of the book:  http://www.manning.com/shigeoka

At the least, you could go to a book store and browse through it to see what
should be going on in there.  :)

Also, although DJ didn't mention it, he has a Jabber book out that discusses
Jabber in context of the open source jabberd Jabber server.
