[JDEV] Jabber.com <==> rest of the world problems

Hi - can anyone shed some light on this?

For a while now I seem to have intermittent problems when using my
Jabber.com account.

For some reason, some people on other servers (jabber.org in some cases)
don't appear online, when I can chat happily with them from accounts on
other servers.

Also there is a problem adding people on other servers to my roster.  This
is the case for accounts on both charente.de and amessage.de (both German
servers as it happens).  The remote people never get my sub request, and I
never get theirs.  I sometimes I get a dialback error:

502: Dialback failed. Sending host is not authorized to send packets from
the specified address.

Any ideas?  Is this a configuration issue, or some incompatibility between
the open server and the commercial one?  Either way it is really bad
publicity for Jabber in the cases where I was trying to show someone how
cool Jabber was and I couldn't even authorise them.
