[JDEV] Help on developing jabber client needed!

Hello! We are a small team of university students, developing a client with the
ability to chat around an artifact (video or picture).

This will be used in remote teaching, where the teacher control which artifact
is displayed on all clients connected to a teaching "room". It seems Jabber
contain a lot of the functionallity we need such as:

- Precense managment
- Group chat
- One to one chat

But what about the following:
- Closed (chat)room either by a general password or approving users.
- Room capable of remembering all allowed users and not just those currently
present.
- File delivery from server Are theese functions available in any form?
- SMS messaging
- Sending mail

If we need to develop our own server modules how difficult would it be develop
the above? We intend to use Java, and develop for both desktop and PDA.
