[JDEV] Probelms with presence

You are most likely hitting the (not completely intuitive) presence and 
roster notification logic. To summarize:
- You will not receive other user's available presence until you change 
your presence to available
- You will not receive subscription requests until you change your 
presence to available and request your roster.
