[JDEV] GZipping Jabber Messages

Hi,
Interestingly our company is designing a low cost online PDA. We hope to
place a jabber client on this device. Bandwidth is a prime concern as we
use Bluetooth for connectivity and one of the options we looked at was
gzipping on the fly with apache.

I agree that in most cases bandwidth is cheap, but I could see a few cases
where it's not:
1) Cell Phones
2) "Online" PDA's (like a Palm VII or something..)
In both these cases it might be nice for the clients to be able to conserve
as much bandwidth as possible..
Re: Having clients + servers "negotiate" this option, I would think they
should connect to a different port (like SSL does) or something like that.
