[JDEV] Registering with gateways

Dear everyone.  Please can someone tell me how I register my users (through the client I am writing) with the MSN transport at Jabber.org.  I am sending msn.jabber.org an IQ get packet with a jabber:iq:register query, expecting to receive back a list of instructions etc... but what I get is an error saying that the address maps bak to itself.  Do  to start a new jabber connection to do this???
