Great.  I'm also interested in this (I think the protocols should think
security first, then build the rest on top of that).  It will be
interesting to see where this takes us.

Interesting.  I just downloaded the IBM XML security stuff (linked as the
reference implementation of the w3c XML encryption standard).  It contains
XML based access control stuff that looks really interesting too.
