[JDEV] error opening port

Nope, this is the first installation of jabber on this machine.
i also checked the ports manually, they are not open.

Any chance you have another version of jabberd running somewhere that 
has already allocated those ports?  A quick ps -al | grep jabberd 
will tell ya..
