[JDEV] send nothing ? -was : Type of connection used for a jabber server

What is the 'send nothing trick'  ?

 Is there a message or query type that the server will simply echo -
something that I can use to confirm that my connection is still active ?

And yes I use the send nothing trick each 30 seconds so it is not because of
timeout error.
