Do you need DNS, no but you need to make sure that when you compile
libetherx, you are NOT using adns.  run configure and then
comment out the line in config.h for using ADNS.  
(note this is what I do but others will probably disagree)

For groupchat.  Get the module  conference. 
it is not listed as in the co -c but it exists.
