Yes, there is a need particularly in a unix environment to have the
rudimentary connectivity information stored in a standard way.  This is
one of the minor things that JNIX (http://jnix.jabber.org/) will solve,
but there isn't anything there yet :)

JNIX is sort of a Jabber+UNIX hybrid system, that integrates Jabber into a
normal unix system.  I have quite a bit sketched out on paper about it,
but as you can see there is nothing online at jnix.jabber.org yet :)  It's
not really a core project, but something that needs to happen after we get
0.7 working.  I'll throw my notes up online and post a note here about it
in the next few weeks or shorty after 0.7.
