[JDEV] Jabber Setup

Help!

I have downloaded, configured source code, (adjusted Makefiles), compiled
and now have jabber and etherxd running on my Linux box. I am trying to use
WinJab and jabba to talk to my installed jabber server and am not getting
very far. I am also trying to learn enough about the protocol from the web
site pages in order to build my own simple client to learn about jabber.
Limited success there as well.

I realize that everyone is working hard to get this thing to a stable state
but if time permits I have two questions.

1) Is there a simple guide/readme someplace that tells me how to configure
the servers? They compile and run, now what? What goes in the various .xml
config files in order for me to run a standalone jabber server to serve a
small local user base to experiment with and learn about this technology?
I am using the configurations out of the box and can't believe that they
are right for my environment.

2) Is there a current protocol description somewhere? I see examples all
over the web pages but I am never sure what pieces are required, which
pieces are old and out of date and so on. I've read from the mailing list
that this is being worked on but is there a BNF description or something
that helps understand who sends what to whom and when?

Thanks....
