Configure isn't replacing some of the variables in the makefiles in
subdirectories. Haven't had time to go dig into what's wrong yet as I have a
ship deadline breathing down my neck. If nobodies sorted it out by the time
I get back to it I'll track it down. I'm sure it's one of the many gotcha's
in autoconf.
