Don't think in terms of servers, think it terms of users and<br>
subscriptions. If there is a subscription then the user's server will<br>
do everything necessary to notify the contacts' servers of their<br>
presence, and vice versa. If the contact's server is offline, that<br>
presence isn't of any use anyway - the contact is offline. When the<br>
server is online again, and the contact signs in, the contact's server<br>
sends probes out to discover the status of our user. This way<br>
everything stays in sync.<br>
