I wouldn't use BEEP now. I'd be inclined to build something that  
layerd onto WebSockets if I were doing this - a  
WebSocket->TCP-application bridge with in-built SASL auth just feels  
like a useful building block, not least because it'd be directly  
useful as a replacement for BOSH.
