[jdev] web page (browser) to xmpp presence ...

I'm researching the current best practice of hooking a browser event
that can be triggered via javascript to get/set presence.  Is this
something that has been done before?

I want to get some ideas and also some API "boy, this would be cool if
the browser did *this*" thoughts.
