I looked at this before, and my idea was to write a tiny Skype API proxy
that would connect to the gateway, that you would have to run on a computer
with Skype.

vmiklos.hu/project/bitlbee-skype/ has a skyped (python) that does this.
I sort of have a github.com/normanr/skype-transport/tree/master/proxy/ that
does this (.net)
