[jdev] Any quick/ simple c/c++ libraries/tutorials?

i would gladly write a tutorial if there was a simple library for jabber
server messaging ... that i could incorporate into my existing project
... 

I am so new to this that i dont even know how to incorporate libraries
into a project (say in visual studio 2008).

we can include jars into java projects and things work but with c/c++
is there something like that? 
or do you just take all the c/c++ class and headers and include them in
your project by copying and pasting it in the same directory? (that is
what I am doing with some of my other projects).
