Please pass this email along to anyone you think would be interested,
willing and able to help us.
We (e164.org) is a non-profit organisation setup purely to help everyone
avoid using PSTN providers by allowing calls to be easily and
transparently routed over the internet.
The technology that enables this is the building blocks of the current
internet (DNS), and by utilising this technology we currently store
about 20 different types of information in DNS.
While the majority lookups currently occurring are VoIP users, we have
an increasing number of non-VoIP records being added on a daily basis
and we are looking to leverage this additional information via email
clients and IM clients.
The main idea here is people have multiple methods of being contacts,
and increasing business cards are getting and more contact methods
stored on them, and while email addresses come and go phone numbers are
a little more static and this way people can centralise contact
information on themselves between disparate communication systems.
For more information/details on technical specs we have drawn up on
possible solutions, please visit our bounty page on our wiki.
