www.dyndns.org among others, plenty of providers will add support for them 
if you push it and explain why, if they dont listen its time to switch.

No they dont, what they do seem to do is first check for the SRV record, and 
if they cant find it they will default down to checking for an A record at 
the domain, i.e. if the jabber domain is example.com it will likely do the 
following:

1) check for _xmpp-server._tcp.example.com SRV record
2) check for _jabber._tcp.example.com SRV record
3) check for example.com A record

It will not check for subdomains, only for an A record at the domain itself.
