Jabber is a protocol, not software.  Further, it has nothing to do
with email, beyond the user at host.com format, and the distributed
server model.

But perhaps I misunderstand what you are trying to do.  If you were
looking to integrate Jabber/XMPP functionality into egroupware, you
would probably be interested in a library like class.jabber.php
(http://cjphp.netflint.net/), since egroupware also uses php.
