[jdev] components talking to users at other servers

Regarding the previously described problem I've been trying to
solve, I'd like to ask Jabber developers a question.

According to the standard, are components in general allowed to
talk to users on other servers? Or are they designed only to
provides services to local users, just like various IM-transports
and such?

I couldn't find an answer anywhere. So maybe one of components
authors can explain the whole thing. If any, my JID is
thekonst at jabber.com.
