It is a popular feature, although clients didn't put it high on their 
todo list because most public servers do not support this (which is a
very sad state of things).

It is very high on the TODO list of Psi, and will be included in the
0.12 release (which is the next non-intermediate release after the
currently pending one).

All public ejabberd servers support it, so jabber.ru surely has it.
