I am not aware of any server, that does not support SRV records. At
least I am sure, that it is supported by jabberd14 (all versions since
1.2 I think) and by wpjabber (all versions).

But you should not only add the new _xmpp-server._tcp.example.com
records, but also the old _jabber._tcp.example.com records. Not all
servers have updated their configuration to support the new prefix yet.
