Not sure if this may actually help, but I remember one of the most 
popular downloads for MSN (Messenger Plus) has the ability to make the 
nick change to stuff like "Listening to <fill in whatever Winamp is 
playing>" and more useless things.  If a lot of msn users on ones 
contact list use that, that would generate *some* extra traffic 
atleast.  This could account for quite heavy traffic if one has a lot of 
MSN users on his server.
