What will the users be doing in the server concurrently? We are also
planning to add support for external components for the next version. That
could be of help if, for instance, you could have several external processes
offering the same service (e.g. MUC) but using a different JID for each
service (e.g. conference1.domain.com, conference2.domain.com, etc.). This
could help you distribute the service load between different
machines/processes. Note: This is not a real load balancing solution but
maybe it can be of help for you depending on your needs.
A real clustering or farming solution is in our roadmap but for future
versions.

Although Jive Messenger will have s2s you will have to split your users in
different domains (@server1.domain.com, @server2.domain.com) for using it as
scalability mechanism, won't you?
Jabberd2 support s2s already and I think that it haven't horizontal
scalability yet.
