[jdev] Keep alive packages?

Hi!

Some users of Loudmouth have been reporting that their proxy servers
close the connection if there is no traffic over the Jabber connection
that's being proxied. 

I've tried to find if there is some way of sending pings in the Jabber
protocol but I haven't found anything. A user suggested that SMACK was
sending a space character every 30 seconds but this sounds like a bit of
an ugly solution.

Just wondering if there is a "preferred" way of doing this?
