The xdb_ldap module is out of date and no longer actively maintained 
(from what I can tell from my recent experience).  Perhaps it might be 
beneficial to link to Chris Pile's perl xdb_auth_cpile scripts as an 
alternative (maybe not as opposed to, but certainly in addition to 
xdb_ldap).  http://www.snoogans.co.uk/jabber/
The scripts also contain modules for various other forms of 
authentication (pop, imap, ldap, pam, mysql, radius, smb) and are 
relatively easy to expand upon with simple perl code.
