[JDEV] Probing presence from component

  Hello,

  I'm looking for a way to allow an external component to check the 
presence of a given user. Since I don't want the users to put the 
component in their rosters, I guess I need some kind of private protocol 
or privilege to access this data.
  I've not found useful info so far.
