[JDEV] help with sip/simple TRANSPORT

hi all,

I'm in the last year of informatics and systems engineering and for my
final project i'm thinking about building a sip/simple transport for
jabber. My project are is Instant Messaging, and i and my supervisor
think that this will be something interesting and usefull...

I do not know much about jabber, i'm just arriving to this community
and i would like to ask for your help! where can i start? what do i
need to know to start building a transport for SIP/SIMPLE ? Of course
i've already read jabber and sip/simple protocol documentation and stuff
