XMPP/Jabber lacks the "killer-app". The problem? AOL, MSN and Yahoo!
have TEAMS of dedicated programmers working on their individual clients
whereas almost all XMPP/Jabber clients are done by freelance programmers
implementing what they can in their spare time. To average users, most
of the XMPP/Jabber clients appear primitive and not as 'pretty' to
switch from their more 'useful' clients. My biggest argument is "Why
should I? I won't be able to voice chat, share files, etc... with my
existing 'buddy' list." and "Everyone I know is running
AIM/ICQ/Yahoo!". This why the client side implementations like Trillian
are so popular, new flashy interface, neat features and most, if not
all, functionality of current client is implemented.
