Yes this is the literal meaning of conference, but ive found when this kind
of voice chat technology is mentioned the words chat and conference tend to
be used interchangably (whether it is correct or not is another matter
though of course). It is most likely because conference sounds much more
business oriented to the marketing people whereas the actual technology they
are describing is just bog standard chat.
