If your friend never sends a thread ID, your client never opens up
multiple windows. (I hope this is a proper english If-then construction
;) )

But if your friend sends Thread tags (as some services do), then a user
should be able to use this feature.

What i want to end with: don't make the thread tag mandatory but put a
note somewhere if clients support thread tags. a propable overkill would
be a list of supported tags?.
