Hello there,
You only need a true FQDN if you wish components to be available to
other servers.
I often set up components using FQDNs like msn.localhost and
icq.localhost, when they are only to be used by users of the local
server. The jabberd keeps track of the FQDNs of locally connected
components, so never checks DNS. If you want to connect to an external
component, thats when DNS comes into play.
