It's a little early to say that Jabber is or is not supported by the FIMA
folks. AFAIK they are still evaluating technologies. It certainly won't
hurt that there is a lot more functionality in a Jabber system than there
is in a SIMPLE system (e.g., the SIMPLE people have just begun defining
requirements -- i.e., not even protocol or architecture -- for contact
lists, whereas those have been a reality in the Jabber world since 1999).
And the XMPP WG will lead to more people thinking seriously about using 
Jabber technology.

Or so it seems to me.
