[JDEV] scalability

Approximately 1000 on Linux without making any changes to the number of
simultaneous TCP conections your machine can handle. The jabberd server
has been scaled up much higher than that (the most I've heard of reliably
is about 20,000 but others may have pushed it higher), but you may need to
tweak the Linux kernel, change some other settings, and run a client
muliplexer such as the old jpolld or dpsm code. I haven't done that
myself, though, so I can't describe how it's done. :))
