I'm a little confused about what you're trying to do here. Are you
attempting to use the same MSN account through both the Jabber client and
server and the MSN client?

For example, if you have only one MSN account (user at hotmail.com), you 
can't be logged into that account through both Jabber and MSN at the same
time. Try setting up another bogus MSN (Hotmail) account and log into that
one through MSN and see if you can contact your other account through
Jabber.
