...but I see no reason to define a set of emoticons if emoticons can be
more better supported through the use of a full-blown MMS format ... not
only that, but by implementing an existing standard for embedding stuff
in messages, we'll be avoiding plenty of other several-dozen-post heated
debates about how to implement sound embedding, video embedding, etc.,
that are going to occur during the next year or so, so client developers
will know exactly what to do without having to ask anybody - certainly
without having to extend the Jabber protocol YET AGAIN :-(

There you go again, trying to create a new standard to compete with
other standards :-(

If clients aren't going to be expected to follow our "standards"
(probably due to the preexistance of many other "standards"), why
even bother making these "standards?" We'll only be increasing the
fragmentation of emoticon support in Jabber clients, and that can't be
good for the popularity of the Jabber system :-(
