[JDEV] What ever happened to http transport?

I've been wanting to use jabber from behind a (non-socks) firewall for years
and it still seems nothing can do that yet.
Is anyone working on an http transport?
Trying to search for information on past promised development as led me to
the conclusion that no one is working on it. This would be a real shame
since it prevents a large slab of users from considering jabber. Virtually
every other IM I can think of now days supports http. What's up? Surely it
can't be that hard!
