I did not try with a 2.4.2 kernel but it does not apply well on 2.4.0
kernel also. 
I finally found that it applied well on 2.4.0-test5 kernel but not on
more recent kernels (some macros have disappeared in the 2.4.0-test6 and
have not been added in the patch). 
Either, the 2.2.14 /dev/poll patch works very well.
